Big game this Newcastle one.....
Could define our season. May well see where we are actually going.
A vital must win.
A victory, will banish our home form voodoo.Defeat or draw will set us up badly .Especially with CITEH our next game away where, despite our great away form so far the pressure will be on to repeat the Arsenal and Liverpool performances.

I think we need to get back to winning at home sooner rather than later. Tonight is a good opportunity and any points to keep us away from the lower end of the table would be good.
A draw isn't a disaster either just don't want another loss as the crowd gets on the players backs at home and it will make home games increasingly difficult the longer it goes on.

As per my musings (ramblings) below, its going to be interesting and we could once again find that our bubbles are burst as we found after the Arsenal victory. All depends how we plan tactically to play as the team that has the lions share of possession. Our tortoise like pace and movement under the Fat Man needs to be replaced with movement and passing options to ensure we do not simply pass the ball back and forth across the midfield and to the defence in a plodding, predictable style. We have signed options out wide that should allow us to stretch teams down the flanks and also give our full backs an outlet. But Bilic may stay loyal to teh Liverpool 11. That will be a mistake IMHO.

The starting line up will reveal if he has devised a Plan B for home games unless of course we camp deep in our own half and play like the away team as per the Big Sam playbook ? ;-)

I agree with the OP as well.

Won't be disastrous if we lose but winning it would really kick us on and I could see us staying around the top 6 or so for a while.

Monstrous game, 5th one of the season and my ticket will be thrown on the pitch if we lose!!!

I think the clubs main purpose this season is to strengthen and make sure we're going into the new stadium as a premiership team, so althoughI expect us to win tonight, there will be no panicking or knicker wetting from me if we don't, as I appreciate a new team doesn't always gel instantly and at the same time, I can see we now have a pretty exciting squad by our previous standards.

Good times will come I'm sure.

It's a "would be very nice to win" game, close up on City before we have another away day wonder!

Re: Big game this Newcastle one.....
It's a much more important game for Newcastle to win than us, givemn where they are.

I can't see them winning to be fair, we are due a decent home performance and are a better team than them, they have the lowest number of shots on target in the league.

So 5-0 Newcastle then?!

Not that I am wishing for it but if there was a shock and we lost tonight we would have the consolation of seeing Chelsea in the bottom 3 :-)

I agree with the OP. I think this is a season defining match for us. I feel like we are at a cross roads.

This year we've seen how good we can be but we've also seen how bad we can be. Since the Liverpool you hope that Slaven and the squad have been working hard to rectify the faults in the two home games and they have had a good break to work in and tonight, you hope, we see the fruits of this.

I fear that if we look poor again and make silly mistakes it could start to become a mental issue and play on the supporters and players heads making our home games uncomfortable.

A good solid win tonight and I honestly believe could lay the foundation for a decent season. A poor performance and a loss could be very damaging and continue the stuttering.

There's no easy games but this is a very good fixture for us at the moment and gives us a real chance to really get the wheels in motion. They are a decent enough side on paper but there form is poor and they are seriously lacking confidence. We need to seriously take advantage.

I think if we do the right things and don't make mistakes we will have too much for them. A committed, hard working performance should get us the three points.

Need to get our heads out of the clouds following the Liverpool win and graft a win here.

Their squad is possibly a not better than ours .we both have weaknesses but I hope that we can attack them in the middle more than they attack down the flanks or pepper our Randy with long shots .

I guessed that our bench line up was as per DG. I'm sure if I can do it, Shteve can do it.

Stop knicker wetting.

To follow the sequence it would have to be 5 - 6.

Re: Big game this Newcastle one.....
We lost 1-2 and 3-4 at home and won 0-2 and 0-3 away.

So I'm going for a 4-5 loss v the Geordies, followed by a 0-4 win v Citae.

Re: Big game this Newcastle one.....
Suggesting that Carroll may be on the bench could change how Shteve sets up his team and may make him include another defensive option on his bench at the expense of an attacker.

Teams playing against a big lad, normally push up and play a higher line defensively which will stop them parking the bus.

I'm sure he's just guessing - and probably trying to tell us that there will be several new signings and presumably some yoof called Andy Carroll on the bench.

Re: Big game this Newcastle one.....
I don't know much of what goes on at the club internally [ tbh I don't honestly care ] but I would be surprised if Bilic discussed team selection and tactics with David Gold. So it looks to me like DG is just showing how our bench has improved.

What he's saying is keeping the same team this could be the bench nothing more nothing less he's not giving away top secrets!

I can't think of any other football chairman that would do this. It doesn't take a genius to work out our probable line up by a process of elimination. Southon has been dropping hints in the same manner the last couple of days no doubt as a result of phone calls to Gold.
Can't we act like other clubs and let the manager keep the opposition guessing until an hour before kick off?
